Running a Sale on a DEVDIY Theme Without Breaking Trust
A sale on a DEVDIY theme should be a scheduled change to price communication, not a week of emergency edits. Merchants in the United States and Europe get into trouble when the ad, the homepage, and the checkout each tell a different number. Customers screenshot the difference. This guide is how we run promotions on devdiy.com’s themes, including Summit when a wholesale account should not see a consumer code. The theme displays the offer. Shopify’s discounts calculate it. Do not invent a second price in a custom section.
Decide the offer in one sentence before you touch the theme. Twenty percent off the spring collection until Sunday at midnight in a named time zone, excluding gift cards. If you cannot say it in one sentence, you are not ready to design it.
Create the discount before the banner
In Shopify, create the discount or the automatic reduction and test it on an unpublished preview if you can, or on a product you can hide. Confirm which collections are included. Confirm it does not stack with the loyalty reward unless you chose stacking on purpose. Confirm a wholesale or company account on Summit is excluded if contract prices must stay intact. A consumer sale code on a contract account is how you spend a year repairing a relationship.
Place a test order. Look at the checkout line, not the banner. The banner can lie. Checkout cannot, and it is the line the customer pays. If tax or shipping makes the total look unlike the ad, change the ad. Do not promise a total you do not control.
One message on the storefront
Use one announcement and the hero, or one of them, not three bars, a popup, and a cart note that all phrase the offer differently. On a DEVDIY theme, put the end date in the same sentence as the discount. “This weekend” means nothing to a customer in another time zone. Name the day and the time zone. Link the button to the collection that is actually discounted. Sending people to a mixed catalog is how they add a full-price item and decide the sale was fake.
Product pages in the sale need a visible price treatment that matches checkout. If a compare-at price is wrong, fix the product, do not cover it with a badge. Badges on full-price items are a trust problem, and in some markets they are a legal one. If you are unsure, do not badge. The collection you linked is enough.
Ads, email, and the landing page
The landing page can be the collection. You do not need a new page unless the offer needs a short explanation, such as a bundle. If you build a page, use DEVDIY sections you can turn off on Monday. Put the same sentence from the discount at the top. Match the ad character for character on the number and the exclusions. EU ads that omit a material condition create expensive complaints. US ads that say sitewide and then exclude the hero product do the same.
Email the people who already buy from you after the page is correct, not before. Include the end date and one product. Do not send a second email that changes the code. If you must change the code, end the first code and say so. Overlapping codes are how support spends the sale answering “which one works.”
End the sale on the day you named
When the discount ends, turn it off in Shopify and remove the banner the same hour. Leaving the banner up is worse than a quiet homepage. Customers who miss the code will write to you, and some will expect you to honor a promise your checkout refuses. Set a calendar alarm for the person who can edit the theme. Do not make the end of the sale depend on whoever notices first.
Then look at the orders. You want to know whether the sale moved units of the intended collection or whether it only pulled forward orders you would have had at full price. If margin collapsed and new customers did not appear, the next sale should be narrower. Write that down while the numbers are fresh. A DEVDIY theme makes the next sale faster only if you reuse the same section and change the sentence. Do not rebuild the homepage as a souvenir of the promotion.
What not to add
Do not add a countdown you do not mean. Do not add a fake stock counter. Do not add a second theme for the sale. Seasonal themes are how tracking and menus get lost. Stay on the maintained DEVDIY theme, schedule the message, and remove it. If you sell on Summit, decide in writing whether company accounts see the promotion. Default to no. Contract prices and flash sales do not belong in the same sentence.
The standard is dull and profitable. One sentence, one discount, one collection, one end time, and a test order that matches the ad. devdiy.com would rather see that than a store dressed up for a sale it cannot explain at checkout.
If the sale includes a wholesale exception, put that exception in the internal note and in the customer-facing rules, not only in a staff memory. Summit accounts should keep their contract price unless you wrote the opposite. Check one logged-in company during the test order. A consumer code that leaks into a contract cart is the failure mode worth an extra five minutes.
